Summer Blog Scavenger Hunt Stop #6

*interrupting this program*

Hello and welcome! I imagine there are a lot of new faces stopping by here, so I hope you enjoy stopping here! Basically I'll be rambling all things related to summer, books and writing for this scavenger hunt. Let's jump into today's post!

But wait, if you have no idea what is going on, head on over here

Now into the post! 😁

The rules for the scavenger hunt:
  1. The hunt begins on 5/7 at midnight EST.
  2. Don't rush! You've got all weekend (until Sunday, 5/9 at midnight) to hunt. So take your time, checking out all the unique posts along the way. Share your thoughts in the comments or the blogs with your friends!
  3. Submit your entry for the grand prizes by collecting the clue (code stream) on each blogger's scavenger hunt post and submitting your answer in the Rafflecopter form at the final stop on Grace's site!

I love summer. Summer is my favourite season and one I have a lot of grace for (winter won't receive any kindness from me unless it has particularly warm sunny day). Summer makes me happy and I feel a a lot more creative than in winter. My birth month is also in summer, so very fond memories are attached to it.

If there's one thing I love about summer is that it is hot. I despise the cold so much that the hot and the sweat never bothers me. I also love summer rains and storms. Just something so beautiful about them.

But I'm not the person who plans big things to do in summer or has certain things I specifically do in summer. And I'm definitely not the person who pays attention to new book releases in any time of the year. Mainly because I'm generally a few years behind with book series, new books from new authors, and favourite authors and their releases, both old and new. I'm still playing catch up with quite a lot of bookish things. Maybe one day I will be able to pay more attention to these things, but right now, I'm still trying to read the books that were released years ago, books that released when I was a child still (that is so weird to me sometimes. Do you get that feeling? Or is it just me?) as well as the already out new releases too. Just a lot of catching up.

Also it doesn't help that a lot of books that released in my summer are released in the authors' winter. That fact alone makes summer releases for me quite tricky, to say the least. 😅 I don't know how to explain it other than it feels weird to think these books are releasing in my summer when they technically not, even though they are. I don't think that makes sense.

That isn't saying that I am not planning to read summery books in the foreseeable future. I don't know it will be summer or not when I do read them, though it would honestly be nice to read a summer book when it isn't in reality.

👇 So these are the books I'm planning to read next once I've finish reading all of the books I am reading now (I'm reading several books at once and I hate it as well as love it). They are How We Rise by Brooke Riley and 100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons. I've heard How We Rise is set in summer so I thought it was a perfect book to mention. And if you know anything about 100 Days of Sunlight is just screams "summer" all over of it. The cover alone has summer feels. And what's so cool about these books are that they are both indie published books!!! Plus my first physical copies of books from indie authors. So I'm very excited to dig into them once I'm able to. 😍

And just like I don't plan life things for summer, I don't (so far) plan my writing or have writing goals to tackle for the summer season. But it's worth to mention considering that study is a focus right now and I haven't been writing a lot lately. Summer has the longest holiday and while I didn't write much during last summer, it doesn't mean I won't this summer. So I definitely, vaguely, plan to make a significant dent in my writing progress this summer.

I'm still slowly working through Our Scattered Ashes, aka Smoke's story. Every time I sit down to write this story, the words just flow. It's amazing. But procrastination, tiredness and study is keeping me away from my story more than I like. But it's just a season and it won't last forever, plus I still really love this story despite it taking forever to be made into a first draft. So assuming that during summer writing would be easier to do, I'm hoping to get quite a few thousand words added to my word count (and that I will be a lot more closer to the end than before).

I also happen to be writing a short story on the side set in summer and that is inspired by a summer themed quote. I'm not going to say much else about it here, that's for another day. But anyway, if I haven't written the first draft by summer, I'll continue writing it then and hopefully finish it as well. If I have written it by then, I think I will edit it or revise it, depending on how much I want to change it through a read through and/or feedback.

So that's it! Don't forgot to pick up the clue and follow the next link!

Need a hint for the clue? Comment below. Had something I said stand out to you? Comment below. Or you have any thoughts about anything, comment below! Or you don't comment below because I said comment below so much and that annoyed you. That's fair. I'm cool with that. It's also fine to not comment if you have nothing you want to say to this complete stranger or whatever I am to you. Wow, I am rambling in this section too. I'll stop now. 😂

  1. I agree 100% with the entirety of your first two paragraphs! Winter is wayyyy too cold, and I have a personal rule not to complain about summer heat because I complain plenty about winter cold, so even when the heat *does* bug me I remind myself to appreciate it. XD Plus, summer birthday buddies! *high five*
100 Days of Sunlight is AMAZING. It's definitely one of my favorite books!

    1. Oh my goodness, I am not the only person who feels that summer deserves my appreciation, even if sometimes the heat really does bother me same as you, considering that I just hate winter and the cold. Like it honestly gets the worst the more I live. XD I don't feel so weird now, haha. Oh, that's so cool we share summer as a birthday! *high five back*
Yes, so I've heard. I really really want to read it. Even my sister (who isn't a bookworm and particular about the books she reads) told me that when I finish A Time to Die that I must read it next! If she recommends it, I need to read it, ya know?

    2. Yes! Sibling book recommendations are the best. ;D A Time to Die is also excellent! I'd love to hear what you think of it when you're finished!

    3. They sure are. I'm not exactly sure why since she won't pick up books I recommend if she isn't interested. *sigh* Yes, I am loving it so far! Though I imagine my slow pace with it makes it seem like I'm not that interested in the story... but I really am! Like so much! Oh, I will do a mini review on discord just for you. :) Just need to find the time to read it and finish it...

  2. Is the clue stated somewhere here?

    1. So sorry, I took so long to reply back to you! The clue is hidden in the area when I talk about the books I'm reading. This area starts with the hand pointing down and ends with the picture of the books. Make sure to look at the picture carefully.

  3. I read multiple books at once too!!! Currently, I think I'm in the middle of four books. And I'm so behind on my reading as well. I've got a LOT of books to read this summer! XD Oh, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE summer too!!!!! :D I love being outdoors and swimming!!!!
Loved reading your post, girl!!!! <33 :)

    1. Oh, cool! I don't usually read more than one book at the time but with ARCs and beta reads, it's best that I read them all at once. My sanity is going a little crazy, but who cares? (my sanity raises a hand but I ignore it). I've been behind since I started a TBR a year ago. *coughs* Oh well. Same! But I'll probably not read as much as I would like cause you know my brain loves reading but also doesn't strangely at the same time and I'm good at avoiding reading if it doesn't have a deadline? (This is why library are handy. They keep me reading when I don't want to for some reason. I don't get it). Oh, yay! Summer is awesome! I like being outdoors too but I'm not a fan of swimming. I get bored of it quickly.
Aww, thank you! It wasn't my best, but I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

    2. I totally get what you're saying about the reading deadline! I don't read as consistent with my own books, but when I check them out at the library, I read more frequently. (Makes no sense why I'm like that!!! XD XD)

  4. Ooooh, AWESOME POST, girl!!!!!! *tries not to squeal at the mention of Smoke AND the awesome short story*
Did I mention try AND FAILS!!! EEEKKK!!! I mean, it's the PERFECT thing to add in a post about bookish summer readings. Now if only I could read Smoke's story this summer. (*cough* You MUST keep working on Smoke because it will be agony if I'm never able to read his story, so if you're not writing right now, than forget about responding to this comment and GO WORK ON SMOKE'S STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Anyway, moving on. I've heard a lot of awesome things about 100 Days of Sunlight and How We Rise so I hope you enjoy them. Also, I like TOTALLY feel ya on not being able to keep up with new releases AND reading multiple books at once. #StoryOfMyLife XD

    1. Thank you!!! *All the hearts toward you squealing about Smoke and the short story* <3 <3 <3
Haha, I didn't think you couldn't not squeal about it. I guess it is the perfect thing to mention for a bookish summer post since they are both set in summer (I forgot Smoke's story starts in summer). (Don't worry, you will read it... some day. I promise. I am not giving up on Smoke and his story. This story really needs to be told, it won't leave me alone, even if I want to quit sometimes (not because I hate the story or anything, it just that I'm struggling to write anything right now).
Me too! They sound like the sort of the books I will fall in love with for sure. <3 <3 <3 I'm certain I will enjoy them to bits! (*nudges you* maybe you should check them out yourself. Just a suggestion...). Haha, yeah, it is a very bookworm thing to happen I think. Though I believe there are a bunch of bookworms who are a lot more organised with their bookish things. I wish I was one of them. *sighs*

  5. I've heard good things about both of those books. Best of luck with your writing!
    Procrastination keeps getting me too.
