The Finally Fall (Autumn) Book Tag

I was tagged by the lovely blogger over at An Attic Full of Paper. And yes, I call fall autumn over here.

And here is the link to her post: The Finally Fall/Autumn Book Tag. (She also calls fall autumn too!)

Now, we will jump into the questions as there are no rules! Besides the obvious one to answer the questions. And tag people.

In fall, the air is crisp and clear: Name a book with a vivid setting.

To be honest, I have a hard time imagining settings really well. It is even harder to know vivid settings. But one, after some thinking, would be Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I don't know if it is a vivid setting for anyone else, but it was for me since (1) I can definitely tell that the settings weren't anything like the movie and (2) I can picture/remember a bunch of scenes from it even after months reading it. (And there are heaps more that I don't remember at all đŸ˜‚ I blame a lot of that on the movie's visuals clouding my memory).

Nature is beautiful... but also dying: Name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness is so beautiful but heartbreaking. If you haven't read it, I would 100% recommend reading it. I wrote a review on it too if you want to check that out.

Fall is back to school season: Share a non-fiction book that taught you something new.

The bible. đŸ˜‚ Okay, I'm kidding (mostly).

The Unstuck Church by Tony Morgan is a really good non-fiction book that taught me something new. I don't read non-fiction normally, but I read this one cause someone I know recommended it.

In order order to keep warm, it's good to spend some time with people we love: Name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you'd like to be part of.

I think The Lunar Chronicles main cast would be fun to hang out with (I might regret doing so, but oh well).

The colourful leaves are piling up on the ground: Show us a pile of fall coloured spines!

Let me go take a picture now.

This took way too long to do. The picture kept turning out sideways. But finally I did it! And I'm quite happy at how the spines look! I was worried that my books wouldn't look good for an autumn theme!

Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside: Share a book wherein someone is telling a story.

The Shack by Wm. Paul Young. The story is written in a way that it seems like someone is retelling a story that they have heard from someone else. I think it counts, so that's my answer.

The nights are getting darker: Share a dark, creepy read.

Either the Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo or Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson. These are not horror or super creepy books. Shadow and Bone is a dark fantasy, so has a lot of dark elements, and the villain is creepy (he freaked me out). Sorcery of Thorns has dark vibes as well, maybe close to being creepy but not quite, in my opinion. Basically it feels like a low-key Halloween/Gothic book.

Note: I would not recommend reading Shadow and Bone Trilogy unless mature. I plan on writing a review on why you should and should not read it. Honestly I have a love/hate relationship with this series.

Another note: Again, Sorcery of Thorns is not something I would jump to recommend just because its vibes is not for everyone. I am doing a review on it sometime soon so if you want to stick around for that to see if it is for you, be my guest! Just be aware that soon means about 2-3 months.

The other option is to just look them up and find good reviews that help you see if you want to read them or not.

The days are getting colder: Name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up somebody's cold and rainy day.

The Friend-Finding Formula by Janet Slater Bottin. It is a such a cute children's book! It gives me such happy feels and it can be read in one sitting.

Fall returns every year: Name an old favourite that you'd like to return to soon.

The Lunar Chronicles! (Yes, I am obsessed.)

Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: Share your favourite cozy reading "accessories"!

Any bookmark and a comfortable place to read from. I'm simple.

And I'm not tagging anyone again. This is an open tag that anyone can steal if they so wish to!

I hope you have a good day, virtual paper adventurers!

(Can you believe that it is December now?!)

Do you read dark, creepy books (I honestly don't usually)? What was the last book that had vivid settings? Tell all bookish things in the comments below!

  1. Ooo, this tag is so cool! I loved reading your answers!

The Lunar Chronicles cast would be SO fun to hang out with. I feel like there would be some definite regrets, though, especially if one Carswell Thorne was involved . . . ;)

And I look forward to those reviews! I've heard very conflicting things on the Shadow and Bone series - and having read book one, I'm even more conflicted - so I'm interested to hear your thoughts. :D

    1. Yes, this is so cool! Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed them!
Haha, yes, so true! The regret is real. XD
Oh, awesome! It's nice to know that the reviews will be useful! Oh, yes, I understand completely on that! When I was reading them, I was so hesitate and was wondering if I will regret reading them. Especially going into the second book. :O I'll be sure to review it very soon!
Also, is there anything you want me to touch on? As in the things that are making you conflicted? The review will probably be a spoiler one, so I don't mind digging deeper into things!
And also hi, it's nice to see you around again!

    2. Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was a little concerned! :D
*shrugs* not anything in particular, I guess? It's been a while since I read it, so I can't remember much that stood out to me. (maybe that was part of the problem . . . XD)
Aw, thank you - good to be back! I really missed reading your blog these past months <3 <3

    3. Yep, you're not!
      Ah, fair enough!
You're welcome! AWWW, it makes me so happy to hear that you miss my blog! <3 <3

  2. LOVE your answers!!! Also: MELANIE DICKERSON RULES!!!! I know you didn't talk about her books, but I saw them in the picture (Which turned out PERFECT, btw) and I just got allll excited!!!!!!!!! hehehe, soon being 2 or 3 months out sounds soooo much like me!! Yeah, no dark, creepy books over here. Unless you wanna count the Embassy Row series by Ally Carter, it wasn't really dark or creepy but man was it intense. I really enjoyed it, though. It's like my fav book by her. Vivid setting? That's a hard one. I read The Huntress of Thronbeck Forest by Melanie Dickerson recently, her settings describing always seem pretty cool.

Oooh, also, I'm getting ready to start The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu. Have you read it? I'm excited 'cause it's got to do with Mozart's sister and all. I just hope it's going to be really good. Also, no judging over the obsession thing. I'm WAAAAYYYY beyond obsessed when it comes to the Ascendance Series. I may or may not be thinking about making a tag for it. Shhh! Don't tell anyone!

    1. Thank you! YESS, I LOVE her books so far (except for the ones I haven't read yet and the Warrior Maiden - that one was ok, not brilliant). Haha, honestly I get excited too when I see a fan of her work or a one or more books from her on a bookshelf. (Aww, thank you! That means a lot to me cause I have very little skill in taking photos!)
That's fair enough! I'm really not the type, but I just happened to read two that fit in that category and enjoyed them?! It's weird actually. Oh, I have not read that series! That's cool! I should check it out! Ooh, yes, Dickerson's description of settings are pretty good!
Oh, that's cool! I haven't read it or heard of it before! I hope you enjoy it! Haha, we all need our obsessions. Hmmm, maybe I should write a post about the books/authors I am obsessed with. Oh, that's so cool! (My lips are sealed!) Hopefully I would have read all of the books in that series by then so I could join in!

    2. Oh, yes, I hope you've read all the books in that series, too, by then!! I actually thought you had. So, you're kind of on my list of those I was gonna tag. Since it's REALLY hard to find fans of The Ascendace Series, and you like tags. Not to mention, I'd want to hear your answers. When I a actually figure out what the questions are, that is. ;)

    3. Unfortunately, no. I've only read the first two! I've been dying to finish it since I learnt about a fourth book releasing! (That was quite a while ago, and I still haven't. But I blame that on being poor and the library not having them!)
Oh, yay! I enjoyed them so far and I do love tags, so I definitely think I would work as a nomination! Aww, thanks! I'm glad my answers to questions are cool to you! Haha, I bet your answers would be awesome!

    4. I think I should go save up and buy them after Christmas! The tag is making me so excited to read them!

  3. Hehehe....my answers would be WACY AND OBSESSED at best!
YES, you should TOTALLY save up and get them, 'cause the third book is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE IN THE SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the only book to this day that has EVER made me actually cry, so get ready.

    1. Haha, they will be great! That is assuming that you're answering your own questions, that is.
Okay, I will make it my first bookish goal for next year! Oh, cool, that sounds amazing and terrifying! XD

  4. I loved reading your answers! I call Fall Autumn too, Autumn just sounds, well, prettier. ;)

I don't mind a dark, creepy book as long as it doesn't leave me feeling depressed. I refuse to read horror though. Nuh uh, no way. Sleep and sanity are way to valuable to me. XD Thr3e by Ted Dekker was dark and creepy but I loved the way he handled it. There was a lot of Christian elements woven through the story so that helped it never get so dark everything was hopeless.

And I just finished The Lunar Chronicles last night!!!! Man was that a ride! Half the time I'm squealing over the cute interactions between the couples and friends, and half the time I'm screaming "Don't die!" XD I would definitely want to hang out with the crew for awhile! ^_^

    1. Oh, cool! Yes, Autumn sounds so pretty!
I agree! And, yes, no horror for me either! I get disturbed by things that are not even horror so... Oooh, I should check this book out. Sounds very interesting!
Oh, yay, you finished the Lunar Chronicles!!! Haha, yes, I had the same reaction to the series. Yep, they would be so fun and cool to hang out with!

  5. Ooh, the Lunar Chronicles! I love that series so much. I'd love to re-read it soon...

    I love your book stack!
I kind of want to read Shadow and Bone? Like, it seems vaguely interesting, but I've also heard a lot of mixed things about it so I'm unsure. Sorcery of Thorns was pretty good, but it seemed to take me a little while to read.

  6. YESS, Lunar Chronicles!! These series are just the best, and I need to reread them myself!
    Thank you! :)
Oh, that's cool! It is actually really interesting, but yeah, there are mixed feelings about it. My suggestion with this book would be to not rush into it. Figure out if you're willing to handle the things that you're unsure about. Hopefully my review on it will help you make your decision, if you're still uncertain about it by then, that is. XD
Yeah, it took me a while to read it too, but I was in a reading slump at the time (I am still in it actually). So I don't know if it was because of the book or just me. I know that every time I read it, I was pretty engaged with the story. But I can totally see why it might take someone a while to read it. It definitely has a slow feeling to it.
