Blog Tour: Calligraphy Guild Character Interview
Welcome. I'm not officially back (yet), just dropping in to do my part in the Calligraphy Guild Blog Tour! I'm super excited to be in this tour. I loved reading and giving feedback on this soon-to-be released book by R.M. Archer. I also loved the character I am going to interview in a moment. She's easily one of my top favourite characters in this story, though so many of the characters were incredible. But she was one of those few who really stood out in my memory after I reached the end.
Anyway, without further ado, introducing Lôi Tora, a POV character who dealing with chronic illness.
1. What inspired you to become a calligrapher?
Tora: Making a positive impact is important to me, especially fighting for justice, and there aren't many ways I can do that with my health being what it is. Calligraphy was the one thing I could do to actively preserve truth even with my weaknesses.
2. What is your writing routine like?
Tora: Depends a lot on the day. If it's a good health day, I set up in my office or the library and write by hand. If my hands aren't working well but my voice is, I either ask Zen or Sairsha to transcribe for me or I tell stories at the orphanage. Not sure I have a routine, really; hard to have one when your health is so different from day to day.
3. What is your favourite part of the Calligraphy job?
Tora: Preserving truth and justice. When I write history, it's protected from alteration. No one can tip the scales that have already been weighed.
4. Who is your role model?
Tora: My brother, Makio. He has the strength and patience I wish I had. Don't tell him I said that or I'll never hear the end of it.
5. What do you love doing with your family?
Tora: Playing hoops with my brothers, when I have the energy. My parents and I don't get along as well.
6. What is a tradition your village or family does that you don't care for? Why?
Tora: Meuma always has esteria flowers around the house to gain Gossalu's favor. Wasted effort; if Gossalu even exists, she has no care for my family.
7. If it isn't too personal, how do you combat your chronic illness?
Tora: Poorly, most days. Often by lashing out - at the punching bag, at least - instead of resting to keep what strength I have. If my illness were something I could hit, I'd be in much better shape.
8. What is your favourite type of tea?
Tora: Peach. But I usually prefer coffee.
9. Do you love rain or sunshine better?
Tora: Depends on the day. Sunshine is usually less work.
10. Which virtue do you value the most?
Tora: Justice. Can't emphasise it enough.
I hope you guys enjoyed this interview as much as I did!
